Getting Started

Be a part of the nation’s largest day of volunteering. Here’s how:

Step 1: Find a project

Look around your community. Are people hungry, homeless or ill? Are parks or schools dirty or neglected? No matter where you live, there’s a need nearby and on Make A Difference Day, millions of Americans roll up their sleeves to help others. You can act alone or enlist your friends, family and co-workers. Thousands of people across the community can unite together.

Get ideas by reading your local newspaper, contacting a volunteer center and visiting our DAYtaBank. Check out our Resources Page for tips, volunteer guides, and tool kits.

Step 2: Register your project

Get the word out about your project through our DAYtaBank. This will enable volunteers to find your project to help and additionally, registration ensures that your project is nominated for one of Newman’s Own thirteen $10,000 grants.

After you register your project, you will have your own Project Page in the DAYtaBank. You and page visitors can share this page via social media to spread the word. Check out our Marketing Guide to learn more.

Step 3: Do it!

On the fourth Saturday of October (October 26th, 2013) carry out your plans to help others! Complete your part for the National Day of Good and remember to capture the day with pictures, videos, and social media posts.

Step 4: Report your results

After completing your Make A Difference Day Project, come back to the DAYtaBank to update the details of your project including how many volunteers participated by November 18, 2013. Make sure you do not miss this step for a chance to win a one of Newman’s Own $10,000 grants.

Step 5: Look at all the good!
