This October 24th, millions of volunteers
across the nation will unite with a common mission – to improve the lives of others. In its 24th year, Make A Difference Day is a USA TODAY initiative, backed by the Gannett Company. In collaboration with Points of Light it is the largest national day of community service.

Difference Maker 1
Alison Vauz-Bjerke
Alison and Playworks DC rallied more than 60 people to give a center that provides services for kids, seniors and people with special needs a facelift.

Jessica Carscadden
Jessica rallied volunteers to donate 3,000 stuffed bears for police and firefighters to give to injured or frightened children on emergency calls.

Nick Lowinger
Nick, along with 78 volunteers solicited donations to give shoes to 496 homeless kids in 21 shelters in six states.

Shaquawana Wester
Shaquawana organized a coat drive with a result of 1,000 coats donated for people in need.

Peggy McGee
Peggy and 18 volunteers donated handmade hats and other clothes, bed and kitchen linens, business suits and other items for homeless veterans.

Elijah Rodriguez
Elijah organized a Hurricane Sandy Relief walk resulting in 100 walkers and more than $7,000 in donations.

Eleanor Schoenbrun
Eleanor’s passion for homeless animals led her to help raise over $2,700 for the Animal Rescue League of El Paso.

Jessica Collins created her foundation A Place to Sleep that has so far produced beds for 349 children in need.
